Did you know that most families with a child battling cancer have to travel outside of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for treatment? Our new fundraiser, I Trekked the U.P., benefits families fighting Childhood Cancer. We aim to provide help with gas, food, travel, accomodations, and more through your donations. Trek outside for a snowshoe session, a run on the treadmill, or a simple daily walk. Then track those miles/hours/steps and donate based on what you achieved! Visit our website to learn more about our cause: uplionsserve.org

I am resending three flyers that were sent out a while back in hopes that you will all reread them and give them consideration. While you’re in the holiday giving mode, please think of donating electronic gift cards to Kids Kicking Cancer to help our childhood cancer families. They provide valuable help for these families who struggle with expenses, even if it’s just for the little things.
The childhood cancer program will take care of getting the items where they need to go, either by mail or driving down to deliver or meet a contact. You can send items to me, Chris Smith via mail or I can meet you, or I will drive and pick them up if you have a bundle of things.

Governor Joe Maki; 1st VDG Jim Svinicki and 2VDG Gretchen Preston (along with Lion Floyd) were privileged to have a special tour of the gardens of Partridge Creek Farms in Ishpeming. Lion Dan Perkins provided the tour and the group was accompanied by Rep. Sara Cambensy. Partridge Creek Farms is a District 10 supported project crossing two Lions signature services – Environment and Hunger.
Lion Dan and Partridge Creek Farms received a special commendation from the Michigan Legislature presented by Rep Cambensy. They also presented future plans for a very large project on the site where the presentation was done. Please check out this interesting and innovative project at their website partridgecreekfarm.org and consider what your club may do to help support this!

REQUEST FOR DONATIONS
You may or may not be aware there is a great group of individuals that banded together to form a group called “Masks in Delta County”. They have a presence on Facebook and at the writing of this document have 504 members of our Delta County community. This group is gathering fabric, interfacing, elastic and the other items needed to make masks. There are individuals cutting & sewing hundreds of masks to be donated to those on the front line. Coordinating this group is Jill Spencer. As of 4/7/2020 over 1,000 of these masks have been delivered to various locations including 600 to St Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Bill (Gladstone LION) & Cathi Sjoquist made a visit today to Dan Perkins (Ishpeming LION) who is cutting metal nose strips. The Gladstone LIONS are making a $300 donation to Dan Perkin’s group to offset these 3,000 metal strips.
I am sending this request for your LION’S Club to consider a donation to the “Masks in Delta County” group. They will be using your donation for additional materials needed for many more masks. They have volunteers ready and waiting for more cutting, sewing and assembly assignments.
There is already a huge shortage of elastic around the country so in addition to monetary donations they also request donations of elastic, nylons, tights & interfacing that can be used for these maska. Drop off locations for these items in Delta County are the service desks at Pat’s Festival Foods in Gladstone, Joe’s Store in Rock & Elmer’s in Escanaba.
If your club or an individual in your club wishes to make a monetary donation please make the check payable to Jill Spencer and send to Joseph Maki, SD 10 LIONS 1st VDG, PO Box 309, Gladstone, MI 49837 who will handle the check distribution.
If you have additional questions, please contact Colleen Maki – President, Bay de Noc LIONS Club 906-280-4365.
Yours in LIONISM
Joseph L Maki, Single District 10 1st Vice District Governor
Membership Packets
As Global Membership Chair, I request packets from the International. When new members are posted on the International site, we print out certificates and letters from the Governor for both sponsor and new member. These are then mailed to the secretary or president of the club, and usually arrive within two days.
The packets also include information on Lions, a discount certificate from the Lions store, pins for both new member and sponsor, and a pen for the new member.
If you would like to receive the packets early, just email wnrowe@charter.net with the name of the new member, the name of the sponsor, and the date of the induction.
